Team Building Camp

Last weekend, the unit went on a practice camp to prepare for the trip to the South of France. It was a chance for everyone to go away and get to know each other before the summer expedition. The Friday was spent setting up camp and making supper. Saturday saw the unit split up into their hiking groups and undertake a short hike in the morning. The afternoon was spent doing activities at four different bases. On Sunday, there was a football match between the explorers and network before packing up and returning home.

Practice Hike

Some members of the unit undertook a practice hike this weekend to prepare themselves for their hikes in the South of France over the summer. The routes were around a central base of Bentley Copse campsite. On the Saturday, seven explorers walked 8km towards the campsite. Sunday morning was then spent hiking a 6km circular route around the campsite before returning home during the afternoon. The explorers carried all their own food, tents, and cooking equipment to recreate the conditions that they will face in France. Although spending a lot of time practising their navigation skills (by getting lost!) everyone still had fun and it went a long way to prepare them for the summer expedition.

South Wales 2008

Last weekend, some of the unit went to the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. For some of the unit, this was their first experience of walking in mountains and for others, it provided a bit of practice before they undertake the hike during this summers expedition. Both nights were spent in tents at two different camp sites. The final day was spent hiking to the top of Sugar Loaf near Abergavenny.

County Dinner and Queen’s Scout Presentation

For those of you lucky enough to get tickets, this years event takes place on Friday 18th April 2008. The dinner will take place at Brunel University. The 9 members of Centaur who are receiving their awards will receive their Royal Certificates after the meal and there will be a disco run by our very own Rubix.

Queen Scout Award Presentation
